COURSE OVERVIEW – The Master of Public Health Science degree is designed to be an interdisciplinary, professional degree in public health. The Program provides opportunities for students to obtain broad knowledge and basic skills in the core areas of public health. Students are able to acquire proficiency in one or more specialized areas through advanced coursework, and gain experience in applying advanced knowledge to the solution of actual health problems in community settings. They also help in promoting healthy lifestyles through research, policy, educational programs, development and administration of programs, and improved access to health care.
COURSE DESCRIPTION – The Master of Public Health Science program has been developed with a broad, multidisciplinary perspective. This professional education will empower graduates with a wide range of skills and tools necessary to work in the field of public health and enhance both public health infrastructure and the health of communities. The Program provides opportunities for students to obtain broad knowledge in the core areas of public health, focus on both current and emerging key areas of public health, as well as gain experience in applying advanced knowledge to the solution of actual health problems in community settings during internship training.
LEARNING OUTCOME – With M.S. in Public Health Science, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to:
• develop the public health skills needed to work in a variety of governmental and non-governmental settings including Health Services, Medicaid and Medicare programs, hospitals, and community health centers.
• work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams to develop, manage and evaluate public health programs designed to address health disparate populations.
• achieve equitable health systems, infrastructure, environment, and lifestyle changes through health education, advocacy, and communication.
• design, implement and evaluate systems, infrastructure, policy, environmental, and lifestyle change strategies to improve public health status and reduce/avoid future health disparities.
